To help candidates prepare for certification, we provide a free Candidate Manual and online self-assessment, access to resources such as Technical Tips for Certified Locators and in our new Trainee Locator Development Program, modules that focus on critical aspects of the job.
Candidates must read the Candidate Manual before completing the Self-Assessment and subsequently enrolling, to understand what to expect from the practical assessment and decide if they are ready to enrol. Enrolment into the Program must be completed before candidates can attempt and pass the theory assessment and book in for their practical assessment.
They will be asked if they would like to enrol in the Certified Locator Program after they have successfully completed the self-assessment. Multiple opportunities are available for locators to undertake their practical assessment throughout the year.
Becoming a Certified Locator involves reading the Candidate Manual, passing an online theory assessment and practical field assessment, conducted by an industry expert. During the practical assessment a candidate must present appropriate equipment (see the Required Equipment List) and demonstrate expertise in locating techniques to accepted industry standards.
The assessment fee is $1,295 + GST.
